Performance characterization of a ceramic-fixed bed regenerator in a reverse-flow ventilation system

Streszczenie
Fixed-bed regenerators in reversible single-duct ventilation units offer compact heat recovery, yet their moisture
transfer behaviour and optimal cycle timing remain insufficiently characterised. This study aimed to determine the effective
ness of a ceramic regenerator across realistic operating conditions. Temperature effectiveness ranged from 80.8% to 91.8%,
increasing monotonically with outdoor temperature, while total effectiveness peaked near 15.5 °C. A 60 s half-cycle provided
the best balance between effectiveness and fresh-air distribution. A temperature gradient developed within the ceramic regen
erator. These findings indicate that ceramic fixed-bed regenerators are viable for mechanical ventilation heat recovery.
