Assessment of grain dryer energy modernization using universal, multi-criteria research methodology

Streszczenie
This scientific article presents a multi-aspect assessment of the implementation of energy modernization in a grain
dryer (i.e. installation of a cross-flow heat exchanger, installation of a catalytic bed, use of a biomass burner for thermal
conversion of grain impurities separated in the grain cleaning process) using an innovative evaluation tool based on the social
profit index SROI. The first part of the work is a literature review, which characterizes the concept of energy consumption,
discusses energy-saving strategies of EU countries and Poland, presents the grain drying process, the division of drying
facilities, as well as examples of energy-saving modernizations implemented in them. The next chapter describes the
methodology of energy, economic, environmental and social analyses. The results section presents the effects of the changes
implemented in the drying facility. The last chapter is a summary of the performed analyzes.
